The mission of the MRWA is to preserve, protect and enhance the natural, historic and cultural resources of the Muskegon River Watershed through educational and scientific initiatives, while supporting positive economic development, agricultural and quality of life initiatives of organizations working in the river watershed.

 

2002 Wild Rice Activities

November 8 & 9, 2002

The kickoff ceremony for the MRWA Emergent Vegetation Restoration Project took place on Friday, November 8, 2002 with a Blessing and Pipe Ceremony by the Little River Band of the Odawa Indian Nation. Ms. Ronace Hogan and Bunker Junior High (Muskegon) students gave a presentation of their "Peace Art". Forty-four (44) volunteers participated in this two-day event, casting wild rice and planting bulrushes, sedges and arrowhead in five difference areas of Muskegon Lake and Lower River Estuary.
