2003 Wild Rice Activities

May 10, 2003

A "scouting" for wild rice and other emergents from the November planting took place on May 10, 2003. Wild rice was found at every planting location except the Johnsons Point site. Success varied considerably from site to site and the planted wild rice is a week or two behind the native rice in the Maple.

Ice did not deter the volunteers who gathered on the cold morning of November 8 to plant wild rice in four locations around Muskegon Lake. Ice had to be broken at the Consumers Energy site (below) before any rice could be planted.
